Luxury Vinyl

What’s all the fuss about luxury vinyl tile, commonly called LVT? What makes it the fastest-growing flooring category? Well, it’s not your grandmother’s kitchen vinyl. And it’s not the vinyl composition tile (VCT) that you see in grocery stores and other commercial spaces.

Luxury vinyl basically is vinyl’s answer to ceramic or porcelain tile. It is warmer, less expensive and will be a permanent addition to your home. Luxury vinyl tile can be grouted just like ceramic tile, or the pieces can be butted up to each other without grout.

Luxury vinyl has longer warranties than most sheet vinyl, and it doesn’t require polishing like the supermarket VCT. Proponents say it is every bit as beautiful as ceramic tile and will not shatter even if you drop a heavy frying pan on it. In addition to tiles, luxury vinyl also comes in wood-look planks that are so realistic it is hard to tell them from real wood.

While most luxury vinyl is glued to the floor, some brands can be floated over a pad rather than glued. Leicester Flooring carries all the major brands like Armstrong Alterna, Mannington Adura, Congoleum DuraCeramic, Armstrong Vivero and Tarkett Luxury Floors. Both the Adura and the Vivero can be floated or glued, and the Vivero is 100 percent waterproof.
